Grace Darling 175th Anniversary

RNLI Grace Darling 175th AnniversaryThe RNLI's commemoration of the 175th Anniversary of Grace Darling's famous rescue of the survivors of the wreck of the SS Forfarshire after she ran aground on the Farne Islands in the early hours of Sepetember 7th, 1838.

To mark the occasion, a 104 year-old restored lifeboat, the William Riley, was rowed by volunteers part of the way from Seahouses to the Farnes, and the Seahouses RNLI lifeboat Grace Darling took 'modern day Grace Darling', RNLI volunteer crewmember Kerensa Airey and Jamie White, a descendant of Grace Darling and a volunteer crewmember on the Whitby lifeboat, to the Longstone Lighthouse to lay flowers in memory of Grace and those lost on the Forfarshire.
