A fire breather entertains the crowds in Tynemouth during the 2012 Mouth of the Tyne festival.
A beacon to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee was lit at Tynemouth Castle at exactly 10.01pm. The beacon was one of 2,012 lit throughout Great Britain, culminating with the Queen lighting the final one at 10:30.
This Harbour Seal pup decided to have a rest and a wash on North Shields fish quay sands in January 2011. Looks cuddly but in reality they're aggressive and have sharp teeth! Click on the pic to view a larger version.
